Gwen Stefani
“Music and fashion, it all comes from the same place of creativity.”
While singer and designer Gwen Stefani was growing up in Anaheim, California, she often wore clothes handmade by her mother. Once Stefani learned to sew, she was making her own clothes and quickly became obsessed with fashion and personal expression. Through her song writing and designing the outfits that she donned while performing, Stefani, after joining the band ‘No Doubt’, acquired a position that further allowed her self expression.
In 1996, she visited Tokyo for the first time and instantly felt at home. Seeing the people in Harajuku expressing themselves with their own individual style inspired her. With a growing fan base of female fans imitating her style and help from people like stylist, Andrea Lieberman (who introduced her to haute couture) Stefani started her own line. In 2003 she launched the clothing line L.A.M.B to coincide with her solo album Love. Angel. Music. Baby, one of MyCloset’s favorites! A year later, in 2004, she had her first runway show and continues to present at New York fashion week. With inspirations like the Japanese and Rastafarian cultures, Stefani’s products are truly and uniquely her. By June of 2005, she introduced a much less expensive line called Harajuku Lovers and now designs clothes, undergarments, baby wear, handbags, watches, fragrances, and other accessories.
Life facts:
In 2004 Gwen Stefani married Gavin Rosdale, wearing a white and pink John Galliano gown. They had two ceremonies, one in Covent Gardens and one in Los Angeles, so that she could wear her custom designed dress a second time. In 2007, Stefani launched her first perfume “L” and a year later in September introduced four fragrances for Harajuku Lovers.
