Atsuro Tayama
"I'm a clergyman who creates fashion."
‘Fashion’s Mr. Twister’, Atsuro Tayama, stays out of the limelight, while continuing to show each season during Paris and New York fashion weeks. The Kumamoto, Japan native graduated in 1975, from the Bunko Fashion College in Tokyo. Three years later he started work as the Director of European Operations at Yohji Yamamoto. And after four successful years, Tayama, left to establish the womenswear and accessories company Ozoc (Original Zone Original Comfort), which targeted young ladies 18-25 years of age. His signature looks of combining masculinity with femininity, East with West, natural with artificial, and beauty with deconstruction helped to make Ozoc a leading Japanese company. By the early 1990s he moved to Paris to design for the house of Cacharel, and has yet to leave the city of lights. After leaving Cacharel, Tayama started his own label with the lines Eponymous and AT Collections. Each womenswear line shows off Tayama’s ability to cut, wrap, and ruche dresses in seemingly impossible ways.
