adma Parvati Lakshmi was born in Madras, India on September 1, 1970 and spent the majority of her adolescence in the United States. In the course of her travels, she impressively learned five different languages. Although Padma has one half brother and sister from her father, a former executive at Pfizer, she is the only child from her mother who was his first wife.

During her senior year at Clark University (Worcester, Massachusetts), Padma studied a portion of that year abroad in Spain. It was during this time in Spain that she was spotted by a photographer that convinced her to model. Although Padma completed college with honors and a B.A. in Theatre Arts, she excelled in modeling and became the first of Indian heritage to be recognized as a ‘Super Model’.

During her many travels, Padma gained experiences and multi-cultural knowledge in a variety of ways. And entrepreneurially she has turned many of these experiences and adventures into valuable commodities and assets. Padma recalls that her family members were always great and inventive cooks. This experience translated into Padma’s real life and lifestyle.. While modeling gave her global exposure, she also gained respect by hosting a gamut of television shows.

Padma has been guest host of the British culinary show, ‘Planet Food' and the host of the series 'Padma’s Passport'. And having been one of the most famous hosts for ‘Top Chef’ since season two (2006), she has also thrown her hat back into the world of glamour with a new fabulous jewelry line, ‘The Padma Jewelry Collection', presently found at high-end retailer Bergdorf Goodman.

Padma was married for three years to one of the most controversial and prominent men of literature from the last century, Sir Salman Rushdie. She has had many outstanding accomplishments, one of which is her being recognized as one of the most beautiful individuals in the world: inside and out. In fact, in 2007, Padma was chosen by People Magazine as one of the most beautiful people in the world.
