The Oscars Stay Golden

Hollywood’s most glamorous night sparkled and shimmered as the red carpet lit up with fabulous gowns and tuxes.

Showcase pieces!: The Oscars Stay Golden

The glitz and glamour of a red carpet is what every fashionista is looking for and the 86th annual Academy Awards did not let us down. While the show’s winners weren’t any big surprise, there was no shortage of them gracing the illustrious carpet. Newcomer and this season’s red carpet queen Lupita Nyong’O stunned in a custom made, pale blue Prada goddess ball gown, complete with pleats and a plunging neckline. Gravity star Sandra Bullock dazzled in a deep blue Alexander McQueen with draping and pleating accents, very reminiscent of old Hollywood style. And luminous Charlize Theron strutted down the carpet in a black Dior gown with a partially sheer train. We do have to give special props to Camila Alvez who blew some of our most seasoned starlets out of the water. Showing up as the wife of nominee and eventual winner Matthew McConaughey, she could have gotten lost in the crowd of movie stars but shone bright with a long sleeved, draping over the other shoulder Gabriela Cadena gown in pale pink. These ladies were just a snippet of an impressive night.

One of the nights biggest trends was the sparkling nude gown as worn by Cate Blanchette, Julie Delphy, Sarah Paulson, Sally Hawkins and Jenna Dewan-Tatum. Embellished gowns were not the only water cooler talk, the column silhouette was a winner for Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, and Kristen Chenowith to name a few. Other trends came in the form of varying shades of light colors, sleeveless gowns and plunging necklines. And let’s not forget about hair, make-up and accessories; dark and coral lips, side swept waves, statement necklaces and drop earrings completed each and every look.

Again the men are bringing their a-game to the red carpet this year. The white jacket and blue suits on display were the most prevalent trend in men’s fashions. With actors like Leonardo DiCaprio, Jason Sudekis, Christolph Waltz and Kevin Spacey sporting shades of blue from navy to royal, it is no wonder the color was a major hit. Oscar winners Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey both wore white jackets and black pants. Other stand outs were nominee Pharrell in a suit jacket, bowtie and dressy Bermuda shorts and Joseph Gorden-Levitt rocking a head to toe glittery tux. Yes of course there were your classic black tuxes, as seen on Harrison Ford, Bradley Cooper and Brad Pitt and while we loved those looks and applaud the men who wore them, it was nice to see some men take a chance and stand out from the crowd.

Patent Leather

Sleek and shiny, patent leather adds a certain pizazz to any outfit.

Patent leather has been one of those fashion items that have stood the test of time. From the shiny maryjane's of childhood to every fashion accessory imaginable, patent leather has always been around. Chanel, Louis Vuitton as well as a host of other famous designer labels have used the forever stylish patent leather when designing shoes, handbags, belts and more. When you have an outfit that needs an extra something special to complete a look, try a wide patent leather belt or handbag. It might be just the touch you need to vamp up an otherwise plain ensemble.
