IN THIS FEATURE: Meet Minna Kao Fashion Focus

Minna Kao founded her eponymous company in 2006. The company began as a custom bridal line, and eventually expanded to bridal ready-to-wear and eveningwear. After making the first posts on Etsy.com and collaborating with the retailer, Kleinfeld, MinnaK began making its mark online in blogs and websites, such as MarthaStewart.com. A signature gown from the collection has also been featured in the Fall/Winter 2009 issue of Brides New York. MinnaK has stayed true to the concept behind this brand, which is to design gorgeous gowns that highlight the beauty of the woman.

Minna's S/S 2011 "Little Silk Dress" Capsule Collection was formed by a though: what would she wear if she had to attend an event every night? She decided that she wanted to have a little silk dress for each day of the week except for Monday. From there, she found her inspiration by studying the movement and softness of the sand dunes in the Sahara Desert.

What has been your biggest fashion faux-pas?

Wearing a dress that I didn't know was sheer until I stood in the light. Good thing my undergarments were cute!

If you could only shop at one store, which would it be?

Mood fabric. Or do you mean clothing store? Barney's New York.

If you could change one thing about your closet, what would it be?

I would make it bigger.

Survival of the fittest: What is one item in your closet that you will never get rid of?

My mother's 1950's wool coat with trapunto stitched lining and a removable faux fur collar.

If you were given the opportunity to have a famous designer revamp your entire wardrobe, who would you choose?

Can I have one for three days? Lanvin, Reed Krakoff, Jean- Paul Gaultier.

Name an actor/singer/celebrity whose wardrobe you admire the most.

What are your best and worst fashion purchases?

Best purchase: My brown leather boots from when I visited Barcelona. Worst purchase: I honestly can't remember! I have sudden mind block. There were definitely a few, but they are not in my closet anymore.

Who makes your favorite pair of jeans? Shoes? Dress or Suit?

Favorite jeans: Calvin Klein. I shredded them in certain areas. Shoes: snake skin wedges by Marc Jacobs. Suit: I don't wear suits, but if I had one, I would want one from Viktor and Rolf.

If you had to describe your personal style in one word, what would it be?

Effortless

If you could bring back any fashion trend, what would it be?

1930's bias cut dresses, especially during Vionnet's time.

If we could take a peek into your personal closet, what would we find?

Silk dresses, layering pieces, lots of outerwear, basics, suitcase, snowboard, boxing gloves. I train in muay thai kickboxing.
