Guillermo Castillo on Fashion

What has been your biggest fashion faux-pas?
I would have to say that it was a fuschia colored mohawk that I featured many years ago. The color got on everything, my clothes, pillow cases, etc. As a result I shaved it off the following day.
If you could only shop at one store, which would it be?
Barney's
If you could change one thing about your closet, what would it be?
I would turn it into a walk-in closet just like the ones you see on the MTV show Cribs.
Survival of the fittest: What is one item in your closet that you will never get rid of?
My Custom National black coat that fits me like it was made just for me.
If you were given the opportunity to have a famous designer revamp your entire wardrobe, who would you choose?
Prada
Name an actor/singer/celebrity whose wardrobe you admire the most.
My Muse Karen O from the rock group the Yeah Yeah Yeahs because she's has an individual sense of style that is so refreshing.
What are your best and worst fashion purchases?
My best fashion buy would have to be my Yohji Yamamoto press sample shoes that I bought in a thrift shop for only $20. The worst I would have to say was anything that I bought on sale even though I wasn't in love with it.
Who makes your favorite pair of jeans? Shoes? Dress or Suit?
Diesel, Hugo Boss, Thom Browne.
If you had to describe your personal style in one word, what would it be?
Eceletic
If you could bring back any fashion trend, what would it be?
The notion that dressing up with an individual sense of style is always trendy. For me it is about the evolution of an individual's personal style rather then being trendy.
If we could take a peek into your personal closet, what would we find?
It is an extensive and eclectic group of designers such as Yohji Yamamoto, Versace, DKNY, Cerruti, Ralph Lauren, Salvatore Ferragamo, Pink, Katherine Hamnett, Brooks Brothers, Banana Republic, Club Monaco, Kenneth Cole, Calvin Klein. I can feel classic one minute and then I’m craving to wear something a bit edgier, or interesting the next. Within the mixing of these opposing styles: classic with a twist, and an interesting edge, lies my own personal sense of style. My style works for me. I do not follow trend. I wear what feels right at the moment for the occasion or for the location.
