In 2003, Sheila attended the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, enrolling immediately after graduating high school. She received grants and was there for two quarters before being offered a job as a lab monitor, which is student assistant sewing instructor. While attending the Art Institute, she produced and designed for several fashion shows, and received awards for visual merchandising, pattern-making, and garment construction. She had the opportunity to work with several charities including the Humane Society where she won first place in the school's local cruelty-free garments contest. She also participated in a private show for an Andy Roddick charity event.

After graduating in 2007, she started working as the chairman's assistant, which allowed her to participate in several fashion shows for different charities. She also started working on her first collection. Rodriguez created her clothing line, Genisifunk in 2005. Since its inception, she has had three collections shown. Each garment is unique. Items are rarely, if ever duplicated. She never makes more than 3 pieces of the same garment. Sheila believes that what you wear should express your individual style. That's what fashion is all about. She met Jacinta Ligon from J.R. Ligon who later became her mentor- "I am influenced by my mentor, I try to learn as much as I can from her."

Genesi funk is not just a clothing line, it's a lifestyle. It's young and funky, grown and sexy.
