EMERGING DESIGNER

Viviane Valerius

V
iviane Valerius is a Fashion Designer based in Miami, Florida working in her own atelier making custom designs for a select list of exclusive clientele. As every woman is unique, so is every Valerius design. Her designs have been defined as quirkily elegant and classy with a modern twist. She creates pieces that can be cherished and carried into the next generation.
Viviane Valerius is a Miami based designer who graduated from Miami International University of Art & Design with a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design. Viviane was born and raised in Petion Ville, Haiti where as far as she can remember she has been in love with fashion. She must have inherited her skills because her mother was an extremely talented seamstress who was very well-known for her exceptional craftsmanship. Her mother owned her own shop in Petion Ville so Viviane’s desire to become a fashion designer came very naturally. Valerius has always had an affinity for drawing and would often get grounded for sketching in her books and notebooks. Becoming a fashion designer allowed her to marry her passion for art and design which gives her the freedom to be the creative person she was always meant to be.

Viviane could not remember the exact first design that she created but she does remember making clothes for herself and she even re-made her own school uniform at the age of only eight years old. The fact that no one believed she made it herself, gave her a big boost of confidence in her early abilities. Even though she knew the garment wasn’t perfect, one would have to have a strong knowledge of sewing to be able to detect the slight imperfections in her pre-teen work. That is an incredible accomplishment for an eight year old! She recalls vividly, “being in my mother’s atelier observing while my other siblings were out playing”. Not having fabric would not stop this young designer in the making. She would cut her mother’s long curtains and her sheets to make her crafts. Even though her mother was an accomplished seamstress, Viviane stresses, “I can’t say that my mother taught me how to sew because she never wanted me to be a professional seamstress. The truth is, I self-taught myself observing my mother and experimenting on my own.”
The feminine shape is the most gracious silhouette that ever existed and every woman is a muse to design for.
