It was early on in life when Carl Trogdon discovered his talent for fashion. He was around the age of eleven when he learned the fundamentals of hand sewing from his mother. Some of his first designs were unique Barbie clothes that he made for his cousins. This prompted him to create line of sock puppets which he sold for profit. His mother would later show him how to cut and sew a pair of basic shorts. From that moment on he knew that his gift was to somehow be involved in fashion.

While attending the Art Institute of Philadelphia in 1991 for Fashion Merchandising, his interest slowly drifted towards Fashion Design. The next year he left the college and started designing garments for friends and family, initially only constructing basic and simplistic designs. As his knowledge and appreciation of fabrics, drapes and construction increased, so did his eagerness to prevail in other more complex projects. He began designing wedding gowns, prom dresses, pants, shirts, etc. for his exclusive clientele.

Then in the year 2000 he met an eccentric woman by the name of Keah Crosby… instantly the two became inseparable. She, like him, had visions of clothing that no one in the Maryland area had envisioned before. Together they developed and started a line of seductive and provocative garments for men and women… and called it Scandalous By Design. Their racy yet intriguing designs led to many fashion shows around town. Receiving standing ovations wherever they showed their line, Scandalous by Design gained recognition for its ability to captivate an entire audience and leave them mesmerized and yearning for more. Specializing in stretch fabrics, texture, color and fit, Scandalous by Design started out designing swimwear, lingerie, and intimate apparel for men and women… later adding ready-to-wear, and couture eveningwear to the roster of design capabilities. With the newest additions to the lines, and receiving phenomenal response after designing clothing for The Golden Scissors Awards in 2003, Miss Clairol segment, Carl wanted his craft to be taken little more seriously so he decided to start a new clothing line on his own, thus Alek Risimnic Couture was born.
