Zendaya

From Disney to Red Carpet to Challengers Maven

I
t is not often you hear the word 'icon' in relation to someone so young. Presently older at this day and time, Zendaya, a singer, actress, dancer, producer and designer Zendaya fits the bill. Since her time on “Shake It Up”, she has graced numerous red carpets from movie premiers to award shows to the MET Gala. Thanks to her fearless, bold and risky looks, Zendaya nails every red carpet she steps her Louboutin footed pump on. For one so young, she carries herself with a maturity and confidence most can only aspire to.
In 2015 Mattel produced a one-of-a-kind Zendaya Barbie, based on her infamous red carpet look at the Oscars. Complete with the Vivienne Westwood gown, pinky ring and dreads she so fiercely rocked, the doll was revealed at the Rock ‘N Royals Concert Experience, which Zendaya hosted. It’s not everyone who gets their very own Barbie doll, so landing on the best dressed must seem commonplace for young star. She is officially a celebrity fashionistas everywhere can’t wait to see appear.

While a lot of credit goes to Zendaya for her innate ability to dress, her partnership with stylist Law Roach propelled her to red carpet fame. After a chance meeting years ago, the two bonded and the rest is history. They work together in an equal partnership, talking through ideas Roach has come up with. And sometimes those ideas take on a whole new life thanks to Zendaya’s input. The respect they have for each other makes them a match in red carpet heaven.

With influences like Erykah Badu, Madonna, Janet Jackson; basically women who do their own thing and dress for themselves, it is no wonder Zendaya is a force to be recokoned with on the red carpet. Not to mention, the times she has paid homage to fashion icons like Cher, Josephine Baker and most notably David Bowie. While attending the 2016 Grammy’s, she sported a Bowie-like mullet and rocked a Dsquared2 menswear inspired double breasted tux. Every choice she makes for a look is thoughtful and inspired. With a different hairstyle for every red carpet appearance, Zendaya sets herself apart from other ladies. Bianca Jagger, Diana Ross and Tina Turner are used as hair guidelines, with her and Roach taking their nostalgic looks and making them her own.

We see the writing on the wall. With Spiderman, Dune, Dune part 2, Challengers and the series Euphoria already under her belt, Zendaya is a fashion icon every designer will be proud to have her showcase their looks. Knocking down her door to get an in to Zendaya's world.
